The new 340i featuring the M Performance Power kit (MPPK) was premiered at the SEMA show in Las Vegas. The kit increases power to a staggering 360bhp and torque in excess of 500Nm. Power is achieved through the use of a bi-valve exhaust system designed and developed by RA at its new Innovation Centre, and produced at the company’s production facility in Daventry UK. The exhaust forms part of the complete tuning kit produced on the same site.
Head of Engineering Dr Mike Gore explains:
“The system was developed in a very short space of time, made possible only though the use of the RA acoustic simulation package developed in conjunction with Loughborough University. Access to a prototype vehicle was restricted, and development was limited to a two week window where the acoustic concept layout was finalised. The Customer requested that we particularly targeted the interior sound quality which in addition to the exterior quality and level, is exceptional in this application. As with all RA components full CFD and FE analysis were conducted prior to physical testing comprising both vehicle and rig based durability. We are very pleased with the final result – it ranks up there with some of our best including the JCW F5X MINI and BMW M4.”
